Did you miss me already? I hope so! Here are some more updates as we saunter into week three!
Don't Forget Pictures!
6th grade pictures will take place first thing Tuesday morning! Be there or be blank! :)
This week in Science:
We will be experimenting with squishing eggs! Did you know that if you hold an egg in your hand and try to crush it that it's nearly impossible to do so? Why is that? Why will it break when you crack it on its side? These are some of the questions we will be covering in science lab on Wednesday. Remember that we are practicing the entire scientific method, not just making messes! Ask your student what they learn in science labs each week!
Fun with Riggs:
In keeping with a middle-school trend, I have signed up for a website called Study Stacks! I have just finished inputting the current Riggs words into Study Stacks so that students can have multiple ways to work with the words. There are games, quizzes and tests to help students gain familiarity with the meanings of the words and practice spelling them. Please encourage your student to spend 15 minutes every day working with this program.
Portland Art Museum: The Art of the Louvre's Tuileries GardenLater this year we will be discussing the French Revolution. Some pivotal scenes take place at the Tuileries (much of which has long since been destroyed). The Portland Art Museum is currently displaying a collection of Tuileries themed art on loan from the Louvre. The bad news is that the exhibit ends on September 21st. Enjoy a Friday off and take your family to the museum to see this lovely exhibit! Adult entry is $20 but the good news is that kids are free!
Quick classroom help: Dirty trays
We have a set of blue trays on our back counter that we would love to have washed! Pick them up in the morning, stick them in your dishwasher, and bring them back the next day! You'll be a squeaky-clean hero!
E-mail Mishaps?
Are you receiving some communication but not all of it and not all the time? Do you need to change the primary e-mail address I use to communicate with you? Please let me know if any changes need to be made to how I communicate electronically with you and I can pass your request on to our webmaster and get your information updated!
