Hello, 6th grade families.
As you have undoubtedly heard, I have been gone the last two days. My wife and I both received food poisoning that struck us at the exact same time early Monday morning. Needless to say, it's taking a while to recover. Things are looking better now, and I was able to come into school today. Yay!
While I was absent I was covered by some helpful colleagues (substitutes are hard to come by these days) and it sounds like for the most part things went well. Students were assigned work and stayed active. Please note that they are held accountable for any assignment issued during my absence, and check in with them to make sure they were on pace this week. Several students did not managed to finish their essays on time, so they stayed in to work on them today.
Friday Field Trip- Friday 27th
We have confirmed a second destination for our field trip on Friday the 27th. Thanks to some brainstorming by Mrs. Masterson we will be visiting Zidell yards (http://zidell.com/) on the waterfront in downtown Portland. We expect to visit around 10 or 11, tour for about an hour, then have lunch and cross the river to visit the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation (http://www.orhf.org/). This is an introductory-style field trip, preparing us for an upcoming social studies unit. We will be done with our ORHF visit by 2:30 and should be to school prior to dismissal.
Library Field Trip- PLEASE FILL/SIGN FORMS
Students are bringing home a blue form to apply for a library card. We will be mailing these out on Monday. Students must either bring these in or already have a Multnomah County Library card. This is a very important and crucial part of our Night of the Notables research! PLEASE RETURN THE FORM, completed, or with a note confirming that your child has a library card and that it will be with them on the date of our Field Trip (March 5th).
Finalizing Novels- PLEASE FILL THESE OUT AS WELL
Studens are bringing home some paperwork to fill out before we submit their novels next week. This must also come in on Monday, as we submit our novels Wednesday. Incomplete/absent novels will NOT be submitted for publishing.
