Thank you to all who came to Back to School Night and listened to me fill you in on our year! There were a lot of good questions, though I am sure there are many that went unasked. Please feel free to let me know if you still have questions. Also: please sign up for conferences if you have not done so already!: Conference SignUp
As we launch into our second week of school I wanted to take a moment to remind you of some important aspects of middle school as well some upcoming events!

*Mondays-Thursdays from 3:45-4:45
*Starts Dept. 15th (next Monday)
*14 weeks long ($5.00 each day present)
*Open to all grades
VIP Day and Book Fair!
We will be holding a Scholastic Book Fair the week of September 22-25. This ties in nicely with our VIP Day, in which students are encouraged to invite a Very Important Person (grandparent, aunt, uncle, etc.) to join our assembly and visit the classroom for an hour. More details about this day will sent out through Falcon Flash. Currently VIP Day is scheduled from 8:00 to 9:30 on September 25th.
Clarifying uniform inconsistencies: The Great Phase-Out!
We understand school clothes have been bought for the year, but we are working to eliminate two areas of confusion. We will be lenient on these two for the year, but please keep them in mind when buying replacements as your children grow or wear them out.
1. All-navy dresses: These dresses we see on primary girls have navy collars, sleeves, everything. Please remember that the uniform code calls for a WHITE collared shirt under any navy jumpers/dresses.
2. Brightly colored shoes: The primary color should be either black, navy, white, or natural brown leather (not red, grey, light blue, etc.).
Thank you for helping us keep our Falcons looking sharp and in-line with the uniform code!
Sarcasm as humor / Sarcasm as rudeness
Middle-schoolers begin to develop a more mature sense of humor that often takes the form of sarcasm. We will be working in class to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of sarcasm as a tool for humor and communication. As students use and process words with different level of emotional maturity, sarcasm can often be a source of confusion, irritation, or hurt feelings. Please talk with your child about polite vs. rude ways to use sarcasm with their peers!
Volunteer Items Bin
One thing I forgot to mention at Back to School Night was my volunteer folder! If I have copies/cutting/gluing or other minor tasks that I could use help with, I will place things in a yellow folder in a bin at the back of my classroom. Feel free to peek in when you drop your child off in the morning. If you'd like to help but don't know where the bin is, feel free to ask me! At the moment there isn't much to do, but I'll keep you updated as we move throughout the year.
Thank you for taking the time to stay updated!
