Welcome, 6th grade families!
My name is Luke Vieira. This will be my fifth year teaching and my second year teaching at Cascade Heights. I'm not new to our school, though! Upon deciding to become a teacher I spent two years volunteering weekly at CHPCS. This included some work with this year's incoming sixth graders! Then, after beginning graduate school at Portland State University, I served as a student teacher in Mrs. Adams' seventh grade class.
I spent two-and-a-half years teaching at a charter school in Lebanon, Oregon, and 6 months serving as lead teacher at a newly launched school in Tuy Hoa, Vietnam. I've taught both first grade and fourth grade, but am very excited that this year will mark my fourth year teaching sixth grade, as well as my second year at Cascade Heights!
I was born in Portland, Oregon but raised in Lisbon, Portugal. With an American mother and a Portuguese father, I was able to travel often at a young age, visiting countries such as Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Greece, Sweden, and Denmark. I even spent a year living at the edge of the Amazon Jungle in Brazil! Adventure and travel still run strong in my blood.
Adventure is on the back burner for now as my wife and I celebrate our second anniversary this month... and get to spend it with our fabulous (and clever) one-year-old daughter, Eloise. I come from a rather large family (12 siblings), most of whom currently live in Europe. My mother, Elise Ferreira D'Azevedo, worked as an administrator at CHPCS years ago, and four of my younger siblings attended middle school here. I have deep roots in Cascade Heights!
I am very excited for the start of this year and look forward to meeting everyone soon! If something comes up before then, feel free to contact me anytime, by phone or email. It is my goal that every child (and family) feels safe, valued, and heard. Please don't hesitate to ask questions or share concerns!
Enjoy the rest of summer break!
