Happy President's Day, everyone!
Library Field Trip- Night of the Notables
We will be launching our next big project- Night of the Notables- in two weeks. Before you panic, this will be worked on almost exclusively in class, including the presentation boards. We will take it step by step, learn how to attack a history research project and enjoy the process. More detailed information will be coming out the first week of March, but for now, we want to make sure everyone has a library card in preparation for our class field trip to the downtown library.
I have heard from very few as to whether their child has a Multnomah County library card, and so far nobody seems to have one. Therefore I will provide them with the applications to bring home and fill out prior to our library visit. Our visit will take place on Thursday, March 5th.
Battle of the Books- Get Reading!
We are two weeks away from our first BoB battles, and 6th grade is determined to emerge victorious! For this to happen, every student in class must participate by reading at least three (3) books and helping us prepare for battle. Classes must work together to not only read these books, but master them. Because each student can answer only three questions per battle, it must be a team effort. Be sure to ask your student what BOB book they are reading. You are more than welcome to read it with them or even to them!
Family Reading Night: Join Us on March 5, 2015 from 6:30 – 8:00
You are invited to join the CHPCS community for a free night of literacy fun! Each classroom teacher will be reading a fabulous book and leading a fun project for families to enjoy. Sign ups will go out soon via email and teacher blog. Based on feedback from last year, we will be trying an electronic sign up option. Families will be able to fill out the form online or in hard copy. Sessions will be filled on a first come, first served basis, so sign up early. Once your form is turned in, either electronically or hard copy, you will receive an email confirming your selections or letting you know the session was full.
This night is NOT just for primary students and middle school students are encouraged to attend. Also new this year, we will be holding a teacher vs student Battle of the Books battle at 7:30. 3rd – 8th grade students may sign up by the gym to be on the student team.
Finalizing Novels- NANOWRIMO Publishing
Students are working to finish copying their novels for publishing. All novels will be mailed off March 2nd, so their final work must be submitted by February 26th (the last school day before submission). Your child should be working on their illustrations, if nothing else.
Field Trip Friday- Still in the Works
We are still trying to nail down a second location for our field trip this month. We will have specifics out before the end of this week.
Yearbook Photos- Please submit them!
Mrs. Marlatt needs any and all pictures no later than March 1st for yearbook submission. If you have joined us for activities, presentations or trips, please e-mail or bring in photos that you have taken! We'd like to have memories from our crazy year!
See you tomorrow!
