Greetings!
If you were signed up for a conference that got canceled, please feel free to sign up for an open slot on the 10th. If you cannot, please e-mail us with times and days you have available.
Please plan to attend a conference! This is where you will receive your child’s report card, test results, and updates about their performance.
A reminder, we ask that students attend this conference so that they have the opportunity to engage in the conversation about their education.
Upcoming Events/Dates:
February 10th - Parent Teacher Conferences (please sign up)
February 24th- Field Trip Friday
Ms. Venture’s Updates:
Science:
Sixth grade students are still learning about the phases and states of matter. Please see the blog for details.
Seventh grade has finished their chemical reactions unit, taking their final assessment on Wednesday. Next week we will move into cellular biology.
Literature:
It’s drama time! For the next two months our classes will be working to bring classical literature to life. This year we have chosen to combine the story of The Prince and the Pauper with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde into a live, 80’s themed musical performance. Students have been assigned their parts and should be memorizing their lines and song lyrics!
Computer/Library:
There will be no computer time for the next week for MAP testing. Also, please note that our library time has now moved to Thursday morning. This is your child’s opportunity to check out and return books from the school library! We will meet up there first thing in the morning. Please remember, if your student has not finished Typing Club, they need to do so as soon as possible. Ms. Venture is still available every day after school and most Fridays. Please contact her if you would like to take advantage of the lab during these times.
Mr. Vieira’s Updates:
Riggs (Spelling): Your child should be practicing their new words each night. Students should also practice missed words each night. A running list of words can be found on the blog.
History/Geography:
Sixth grade has begun its study of the French Revolution. This is a time period that often energizes their sense of unfairness and frustration and feeling powerless. Please talk to your student about what they are learning!
Seventh grade has been learning about the 1920s in America. We’ve been having some very rich conversations about how current events are influenced by and mirror the past. We will transition to studying the Great Depression in a week. Please ask your child about our discussions!
I have added copies of the slides to the blog here:

Writing:
Please make sure your students are working hard on their novel. They should work on their novel for about 15 minutes each night. So far our classes have written a combined 40,000 words! They are weaving some wonderful stories, and will receive a hardback, bound copy of their story before the end of the year.
