What we're doing in class:
The Game
Our city states are up and running! Today students are faced with the challenge of defeating the Calydonian Boar, the Hydra, and balancing their budgets while expanding their kingdoms. See the link below for a day-by-day update of game developments, and the following document for an explanation of how the game works.

The Game- Parent's Guide
Classic Mythology
We are reading various Greek myths. We've read about Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Hephaestus, Hermes, Aphrodite, Artemis and Apollo. Tonight students will be reading about Ares and Athena!
Astronomy
This week we will focus on the origins of astronomy, telescopes, and constellations. We began last week by discussing the enormousness of the universe and how very much science still struggles to explain.
Vocabulary
We continue learning six new words every day and testing the last 18 words. A running list can be found on the blog here: http://chpcs6thgrade.weebly.com/vocabulary-riggs.html
Poetry
Students will be asked to memorize 15 poems this year. Our first poem is by Emily Dickinson. Here is a link to an online copy of the poem: http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/182908
A Quick Reminder:
PLEASE do not park in front of anyone's driveway, even if you are in car-line. If the line is long enough that you will be in front of someone's driveway, don't pull forward until there is enough space. Being good neighbors makes our neighbors more willing to look out for us (for example, calling the sheriff if there is some suspicious activity on our property on the weekend). Thank you for your cooperation!
One last note: Please let me know if you are receiving doubles of e-mails. I may have you entered in two different lists.
